Obituary

Francis Richard Stone Jr. (84), passed away on October 29th, 2015 at the Washington Veteran's Home in Port Orchard, Washington. "Dick" was born March 5th, 1931 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was the only child of F. R. Stone Sr. and Ann ( Peat) Stone of Lima, Ohio. He graduated from LaPorte High School in Texas, and then joined the Marine Corp and served his country in Korea as Staff Sergeant with the 7th Tank Battalion. He received the Purple Heart and was Honorably Discharged in 1954. He was an avid and accomplished sailor, and former champion in the fin class, a small one man sailboat. His early days of sailing were in Seabrook, Texas where he and family resided until 1971, when they headed north on the Alcan highway to Alaska. He lived in Anchorage and Homer until retiring from Arco on the North Slope of Alaska, as a maintenance supervisor in the oil & gas industry. In retirement, he enjoyed living aboard his sailboat in the warmer climate of Florida and the Bahama Islands. He especially love the northern Bahamas, "the Abacos" and introduced his children to the island of Hopetown, were they enjoyed vacations together. He was preceded in death by his sons, Francis Richard Stone III, (Dickie) and Mark Allen Stone. He was also preceded in death by Dickie's wife, Odette (Smith) Stone. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn & Greg Johnson, of Olympia, Washington, Grandson Scott Johnson and wife Olga, of Portland, Oregon, Grandson Aaron Johnson and wife Heather of Puyallup, Washington, Great Grandchildren, Andrew, Brooklyn, and Ben & Brady. Dick is also survived by Mark's wife, June Devisfruto, and Dickie and Odette's son, Brendan. He is also fondly remembered by his extended family in North Carolina, Ex-wife Ronnie (Moon) Stone, and her son Ed Moon, (who preceded him in death), and wife Anne, Geoffrey Moon, his wife Terra, and Grant Moon, Grandchildren, Justin Zach, Josh, Brittany, and Scott. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the lake house in Olympia, where in his last years Dick enjoyed being near the water and fishing. His family looks forward to gathering in Hopetown, Abaco, Bahamas to introduce his great grandchildren to the place he so loved.
