Augustus (Tony) Bailey was born in Birmingham, Alabama on September 15, 1940 to the union of the late Jerry Bailey and Estelle Coleman Bailey. He was the third oldest of six siblings. Tony found God at an early age. He was a member of the Christian Valley Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Tony attended Parker high school. He also attended Birmingham Southern University and Seattle Pacific University. He was an avid baseball player and played in the Minor Leagues for the Birmingham Black Barons. Tony served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army and did two tours in Vietnam. He received a Certificate of Achievement of the United States Armed Forces from Senator Patti Murray. After military service Tony moved to Seattle where he lived fifteen years. He worked many years at Crescent Foods in Seattle. Tony later moved to Tacoma, Washington. Tony was an Assistant Minister at Paradise Baptist Church in Seattle and Greater Love Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Tacoma and worked with African Americans Vietnam Veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. In 2008 Tony met and married Marie Kelly Bailey, his loving and devoted wife. Tony loved the Lord, his family and a vast host of devoted friends. So many people loved Tony and Tony loved people. Impeccable style was his. Our beloved Tony was one of a kind. He was a special person you would not forget. He had love for everybody that met him. Children loved to be around him. Tony passed from us peacefully in his home on Friday, August 30, 2013. Augustus (Tony) Bailey leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Marie, one daughter, Wanda Gray and three grandchildren Vicky, Valerie and Natasha (Star) Stanky Gray, brothers, Harry Bailey (Mattie) of Renton, and James Bailey of Seattle, sisters, Louise Rich of Renton and Bobbie Gant (Lewis) of Birmingham, Alabama, and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
