Barbara IVERSON Obituary

Barbara Louise Iverson of Des Moines, WA passed away peacefully on February 18, 2012 at Highline Hospital in Burien at age 92. She was born in Shoshone, Idaho on September 16, 1919 to Arthur and Bessie Lundeen. In a family of 6 children it became difficult for her parents to care for all of them so Barbara was sent to live with a family in Redmond, Washington where she helped care for the children in that household in exchange for room and board. She attended highschool in Redmond and that is where she met her husband, Harvey Iverson. Married in 1942 they were just four months shy of their 70th anniversary when Barbara passed away. While Barbara did work for a couple of years at Boeing and as a hairdresser, her most important profession was that of wife and mother to her three children. She raised her children well and along with Harvey they were able to make sure that all three graduated from college, an accomplishment of which she was very proud. As a grandmother she made every visit to her house special. Her egg salad sandwiches were always a big hit and surely no one could make pot roast like she could. No matter what was going on in your life, she always made things better. We are so thankful she was able to share in so many births, cheer at sporting and entertainment events and attend so many graduations. We are especially grateful that she was able to dance the night away at the first wedding of any of her grandchildren, Krista, in July. Barbara was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters and her oldest son Robert Iverson. She is survived by her husband Harvey Iverson, daughter Sally Dubuque (Jim) and son Mark Iverson, (Sue) also grandchildren Christopher and Jason Iverson, Hal and Kale Iverson, Geoffrey Dubuque, Krista Banko, (Yarrow) and great grandson Danny Banko and daughter-in-law Emelyn Iverson. Over the years, the family has enjoyed many traditions established by our mom and grandmother. Barbara was a very loving and generous person and took wonderful care of her family. She was very creative and enjoyed arts and crafts of all kinds as well as making dozens of delicious cookies at Christmas time which she delightfully shared with us. We will forever hold her in our hearts.
