Darlene Jean Donlin Darlene [Engelhaupt] Donlin was born January 29, 1942 on a farm near Spencer, Nebraska. She grew up on the farm where she and her mother milked 13 cows, slopped the hogs, tended to chickens, shocked grain and of course did all the cooking and cleaning of the house. Darlene graduated with honors from Fairfax, SD high school in 1959. She had met Terry Donlin at the local town dances and were later married and moved to Brookings, SD where Terry was an engineering student. Darlene worked while Terry went to school. Terry and Darlene moved to Seattle, WA, after Terry’s graduation in 1961, for a job with Boeing as a mechanical engineer. Darlene managed the households including the yard work, house painting and made sure our three boys [Terry, Chris, & Tommy] were raised very responsibly as Terry’s job with Boeing moved from Seattle to Vandenberg AFB CA, SD, ND, and Hill AFB UT and back to Seattle. Darlene was recognized as one of the best cooks around as neighbors and Terry’s co-workers were invited to numerous feasts and soup parties at her house. Darlene did not hand out recipes frequently requested, because she said that was what made you keep coming back. Darlene loved to fish especially for salmon. Over the last 6 years she out fished all the men in the family. Her fish were always over 30# and the largest was 40#. Darlene is a member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and has made over 3000 mission and right to life rosaries as well as being a Eucharistic Minister at Highline Hospital in Burien, WA. Darlene is loved and will always be remembered by many friends from several areas where she lived and especially by her present neighbors and family.
