Franklin LUNKA SR Obituary


Frank was born on December 17, 1927 to Frank and Anna (Arko) Lunka in Hibbing, Minnesota. Frank joined the Navy in December 1945 and was a Seaman Second Class. Frank married Ruth Mattila on February 16, 1952 in Virginia, Minnesota. Frank and Ruth had five children Susan, Kathleen, Nancy, Marilyn, and Franklin T (Ted) Jr. Frank and Ruth lived in Hibbing and Buhl for the first few years of their marriage until Frank took a job working for Reserve Mining in 1954 and they moved to Babbitt, Minnesota. The family lived in Babbitt until January 1967 when Frank took a job with the Milwaukee Road Railroad and they moved to Kent, Washington. Frank worked for the Milwaukee Road until he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad in the early 80’s where he retired as a Brakeman/Switchman in 1992. Frank and Ruth traveled to Polka Fests all over the country after Ruth retired from the Boeing Company in November 1994. Frank was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frank is survived by Susan Lunka (Jack Poltz) Auburn, Kathleen (Nandy) Rivera Bonney Lake, Nancy Schwehm (Richard) Kent, Marilyn Timlick Auburn, Ted (Connie) Franklin Jr Federal Way. Grandchildren James Schlicht Maple Valley, Todd Schlicht Kent, Nicholas Zander Puyallup, Megan Zander Groveport, Ohio, Christopher Timlick (Ashley) Coupeville, Alexander Lunka Federal Way, Taylor Lunka Federal Way. Great-children Todd Jr (TJ) Renton, Kaylee Zander Covington, Allie Zander Covington, Khloe Zander Puyallup, Luke Patrick Howard Groveport, Ohio, Ethan Carter Timlick Coupeville. Sadly Frank was predeceased by his loving wife Ruth (January 3, 2003) and great-grandson Trevor Joseph Wiley (April 13, 2013). Rest in peace dear Dad no more pain, thank you for everything you did for your “tribe”. We love and miss you Daddy Lunka. A Funeral Mass for Frank will be held on Tuesday, July 29th, 2014 at 10:30 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 327 2nd Ave S, Kent, WA 98032, with Christian burial to follow at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th Street, Kent, WA 98042
