George Voller Obituary

George Voller was born in Minot, ND on December 30, 1949 and died peacefully at home in Maple Valley, WA on November 16, 2013, after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. Even in the final stage of his illness, the one thing the doctors and nurses noted was George’s smile when they entered his hospital room. George was born into this world to be a mechanic; his mother once said when she went into town, if she lost track of him, all she did was look down the street, and if the hood of a car was up, that’s where he would be. When George was eighteen, his family moved to Seattle, WA. George began work at PACCAR Foundry and at age twenty-one was drafted into the Army. He served in Viet Nam where he earned several medals, including two Bronze Star Medal’s, one for valor. George rarely spoke of Viet Nam. None of his friends ever knew of his medal of valor, and even years later, when he married, he never told his wife. After his discharge, George went back to PACCAR for a short time, and then began work at Kenworth Northwest and while working there he completed his journeyman certificate at RTC for diesel mechanic. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Gerri Schur, and they married in 1981 after a long courtship. George began his career at Metro Transit as a diesel mechanic in 1978 and worked there for over thirty-three years, until his death at age 63. George enjoyed working at Metro Transit and had many good friends there. He was especially known for being a hard worker, and any project he took on, whether at work or at home, he gave it his all. George leaves behind many wonderful friends and loved ones, including his wife, Gerri, of thirty-three years; his sister Eleanor Barth of Everett, WA; his sister Tillie Reinier of Spokane, WA; his brother Gabe (Margaret Ann) Voller of Uniontown, WA; his brother Dan (Thelma) Voller of Kent, WA; his brother Dave Voller of Covington, WA; his sister Bernice Voller of Tukwila, WA; and his sister Glenda Voller of Seattle, WA; and eleven nieces and nephews. We love you George and we are comforted knowing you are with God. But now we have the hard task of going on without you. Services are at St. Barbara’s in Black Diamond, Friday, November 22nd, at 10:30; with a reception following. Interment is November 22nd, at Tahoma National Cemetery, at 2pm.
