Monica Margaret (Hager) Buchanan was born October 25, 1921, on a farm in Orrin, North Dakota, to Joseph M Hager and Eva (Snieder) Hager both of whom had immigrated to the United States from Strasburg and Odessa Russia respectively in 1902.
Monica graduated from Balta High School. After graduation she moved from North Dakota to Seattle in 1939 and worked as a waitress until she was able to gain employment as an ice cream technician at Arden Farms, where she remained for 40 years. After that, she transferred to Darigold where she worked for an additional six years.
Monica was married to the love of her life, Robert Buchanan, until the time of his passing in 1959. They did not have any children and Monica never remarried.
Monica was the first in her family to move to Washington after which, several others followed suit. She loved to work in her garden and was mowing her lawn and chopping firewood well into her ninety’s.
Monica was preceded in death by both her parents, Joseph M. Hager and Eva (Snieder) Hager; her siblings, Christina Hager, Anton “Tony” M. Hager, Eva Anderson, Amelia “Rose” LaViolette, Mike M. Hager, Matt Hager, and Eva M Hager, and niece Gloria Fierling.
She leaves to cherish her memory, niece Donna M. Berg and nephew Larry J Hager, as well as, many other nieces and nephews. Monica’s 101 years of life will be remembered fondly.
