Velma L. Davis

Velma was born in Seattle on August 2, 1956, she is the 2nd of 5 children of James and Carole Davis. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended Seattle Community College. She went on to work for Seattle Public Schools helping special needs children. Velma loved spending time with family and friends. The thing she loved most was spending time with her grandchildren. Every Seahawk’s Sunday she spent with her son’s and grandkids making dinner and watching the game. Velma also attended many of her grandkids school functions and sporting events. Often on the weekend the grandkids would spend the night with their Granny and have a great time. When Velma was not being Granny she enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and old tv shows from the 70’s. She really enjoyed her old skool R & B music. In the car she always played Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire, Isley Brothers and Bobby Caldwell “What you Won’t Do for Love.” She also hung out with her close friends going to ocean shores, to the casino, and to Red Lobster for “all you can eat shrimp.” Every November Velma would start planning to attend the “Slammin Jammin New Years’ Eve Celebration at the Doubletree Hotel, she looked forward to celebrating at this party every year. In 2011 Velma had a stroke which affected movement in her left hand. As part of her therapy to regain strength in her hand she enrolled in Path with Art, a ceramics class where she made fantastic clay art pieces, some of which were featured in their annual art show. The following year Velma was pictured on the cover of the Path with Arts brochure. She was very proud of her accomplishment and getting her hand strength back. Velma was a faithful member of her church where she studied and attended discipleship classes. Her spirit and her love will be greatly missed by many. Velma was preceded in death by her father James L. Davis Sr., her nephew DeJuan Johnson, and close friend Gregory Summerrise. Cherishing her beautiful memory is her mother Carole E. Davis, her two sons Richard and Christopher Davis, her four siblings and all of her Grandchildren. Many Uncles, Aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a host of friends. Velma’s Celebration of Life will be held Saturday December 9, 2017 at 11am at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Seattle, WA. Her service will be officiated by Reverend LaVerne C. Hall
