Finding Obscure Death Benefits

Social Security Administration - Payment for covered individuals can only be made to an eligible surviving widow, widower or entitled child. At present a one-time payment $255 is provided, with monthly payments made to the entitled beneficiary.

Homicide Victims - Homicide victims in Washington State can qualify for up to $5000. Surviving spouses and children can also qualify for assistance. This program can also provide counselling for the surviving next of kin.

Victims Injured At Work - The Department of Labor & Industries can qualify for up to $5000. Surviving spouses and children can also qualify for assistance. This program can also provide counselling for the surviving next of kin.

State Of Alaska - People on public assistance can receive up to $1250.00 to be used for funeral expenses, if they choose to go over the amount offered, no benefit is granted. Many people are transported to Seattle and surrounding hospitals for treatment. This payment can be made directly to the funeral home.

Native American Tribes - People registered on a Tribal register can qualify for burial benefits, which can vary with each tribe.

Hospitals, Churches & Mosques - In some cases there maybe an assistance program.

Marshall Islanders - Residents of the Marshall Islands can qualify for burial benefits.

Canadian Social Security - Canadian citizens who have paid into the Canada Pension Plan can qualify for up to $2500.

How Is Canadian Social Security The Death Benefit Calculated? - The Death Benefit is calculated using the amount that the deceased contributor's Canada Pension Plan Retirement Pension is, or would have been if he or she had been 65 when death occurred. The Death Benefit is equal to six months' worth of this calculated Retirement Pension, up to a maximum of $2,500.

Canadian Veterans - US Citizens who served for the Canadian Armed Forces during WWII can qualify for funeral assistance up to $3500. Surviving spouse can qualify for ongoing pension payments.

Mexican Nationals - In certain situations, Mexican Nationals can qualify for death benefits. This Benefit can be paid directly to the funeral home.

When Traveling Out Of Country - Credit Cards quite often have simple travel insurance in their basic services; quite often repatriation of human remains is included.

Worldwide Forwarding of Human Remains - Certain airlines assist in the repatriation of human remains to certain countries. For instance, Pakistani Nationals can have their remains flown for no cost from JFK in New York to anywhere in Pakistan.

Unions - Many unions have programs set up to assist families in times of need. Alaska Airlines, Teamsters, Port of Seattle, etc.

Fraternal Organizations - Certain fraternal organizations can assist with funeral costs.
